1979-D 1¢ Damaged Mint Mark Punch

Description: An apparent split lower serif is the result of a damaged mint mark punch. It is not an RPM.

Description: D/D Southeast

Die Markers: Obverse: NE to SW die scratches throughout the date and under chin.  About E to W die scratches throughout and around LIBERTY.  NE to SW die scratches behind Lincoln’s head. Reverse: About east die scratches throughout lower bay 2-10.  Die scratch east from N to T in CENT.  E to W die scratch above right side of memorial.

Description: D/D Tilted

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Die gouge under Y in LIBERTY.  Die scratch above T in LIBERTY.  Die gouge in lower date between 7 and 9.  Small die gouge right of upper E in WE and well right of lower E in WE.  Die gouge below and left of lower G in GOD.  Die scratch at Lincoln’s eye.  Obverse Stage B:  Die gouge under Y in LIBERTY weaker.  Die gouge in lower date weaker.  Die gouge under first right shoulder fold.  Reverse Stage A:  Die gouges left of upper A in STATES and left, right, and above E in EPU.  Die crack on upper column 1.  Die scratch runs SSW from I in AMERICA.  Reverse Stage B:  Reverse die changed.  Die gouge under U in UNITED.  N to S die scratch through upper O in ONE.  Two parallel die scratches running SE from the inside left side of C in CENT.  Die scratch runs from the middle of D in UNITED to the first S in STATES.  N to S die scratches through left side of memorial base.  NE to SW die scratches through right side of memorial base.  Small die crack at the right memorial base tip.

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Die scratches running roughly N to S under LIBERTY.  Die gouge under RT of LIBERTY.  N to S die scratches through left side of O in GOD.  Light die scratch runs N to S in front of Lincoln’s lips.  Obverse Stage B: NE to SW die scratches on Lincoln’s nose.  Die scratches run NE to SW through TR in TRUST.  Small die dot in front of Lincoln’s hair.  Reverse Stage A: Light die crack through the left side of column 12.  About N to S die scratches through left side of memorial base and under base.  Die scratch runs ESE from lower third of column 12. NW/SE die scratch inside the lower opening of the E in UNITED.  Reverse Stage B: Short die scratch running NNE in lower third memorial bay.  Die scratch running NE to SW through memorial bay 9.  Die scratch running about north through memorial base under first column.  Die gouges left and right of lower U in UNITED.
