Description:  S/S North

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Trumpet Tail Mint Mark.  Reverse:   The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 1¢ WDDR-004.  A spread towards the center shows on both upper wheat ears, EPU, and the dots.

Description:  S/S North

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Trumpet Tail mint mark.  Vertical Die scratch running south from the upper lock of hair continuing south along the edge of the forehead and continuing south over the brow continuing south in the field to the bridge of the nose; die scratch continues south in front of lips ending on Lincolns chin.  Reverse:  Strong X shaped die scratch at the E in AMERICA.  Multiple north south die scratches are seen on the lower half of the die strongest from OF AMERICA south.

1946-S 1¢ WRPM-003

Description:  S/S West

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Trumpet Tail mint mark.  Strong die scratch running north and south to the right of the bow tie.  Circular die gouge seen above seen between WE and TRUST as well as under LIBERTY and under bust.  Strong die scratches are seen running north from RTY of Liberty ending just below IN of IGWT.  Obverse Stage B:  Small die gouge seen on the top right of the second T of TRUST.  Die chip under ear.  Obverse Stage C:  Small die scratch seen on the inside of the outer loop facing the upper curl of the 9.  Reverse Stage A:  Multiple north/south die scratches on much of the reverse.  Die scratch starting on the I of PLURIBUS running south between the O and N of ONE and continuing to and through the E ending at the bottom arm of the E of CENT.  A group of die scratches are seen starting inside the C of CENT running south ending at the N of UNITED.  Reverse Stage B:  Die gouge on the right edge centered on the right side of the N of CENT.  Reverse Stage C:  Die fatigue in the field between the left wheat stalk and the rim.

Description:  S/S West

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Sans Serif mint mark.  Die scratches run north from the tops of the B and E in LIBERTY.  Numerous other die scratches running mostly N/S can be found throughout the obverse.  Reverse:   The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 1¢ WDDR-002.  A close Class II spread towards the center shows on the left wheat ear and wheat kernels.  A N/S die scratch runs through the C in CENT to the top of the N in UNITED.  Die scratches run from NNW to SSE between the lower RIC in AMERICA.  Numerous other die scratches can be found throughout the reverse.

1946 S 1¢ WRPM-016          “Best Of” Variety

Description:  S/S East

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Trumpet Tail Mintmark.  The obverse is a doubled die that is listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 1¢ WDDO-006.  A strong spread towards the rim shows on the letters of IN GOD WE.  On the letters of WE the spread is also CCW.  Extra thickness can be seen on the letters of LIBERTY.  Three die scratches extend SW and SSW from the underside of the ear.  A short die scratch runs SW to NE to the right of the upper lip.  Two parallel die scratches run NNW to SSE to the right of the beard and well north of the 1 in the date.  Reverse:  A die gouge can be found under the right side of the C in CENT.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Sans Serif Mintmark.  Multiple die scratches are seen from the left side of the 9 in date both above and below as well as west towards the neck, notably; a long die scratch between the 1 and 9 of date running N&S.  Many die scratches running N&S inside the 9 of date.  Multiple die scratches running N&S, notably; one scratch through the top of the E of LIBERTY and one long die scratch running north & south from well below and running along the edge of the B of LIBERTY ending in the field above.  Obverse Stage B:  All stage A markers have become faint.  Obverse Stage C:  Small die gouge above the W of WE.  Obverse Stage D:  None noted.  Reverse Stage A:  First Reverse.  Die chip shows in the field to the lower right of the N of CENT.  Reverse Stage B:  Small diagonal die scratch running southeast.  Reverse Stage C:  Strong die crack on right Wheat.  Reverse die is removed from service sometime after this stage.  Reverse Stage D:  Second Reverse.  Die scratch running southwest from the left upper edge of the I of PLURUBUS through the foot of the R of PLURIBUS ending in the field below.  Reverse has north-south die scratches.

Description:  S/S West

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Sans Serif Mintmark.  N/S Die scratches NW of the 1 in the date.  Short die scratches are seen north from the T of LIBERTY.  Longer die scratches north from the Y of LIBERTY.  Irregular N/S die scratches in the field west of the head positioned between and below IN GOD.  NNW and a shorter SSW die scratches behind the lower jacket.  Die chip at the lower left side of the vertical bar of the 4 in the date.  Obverse Stage B: Weaker stage A scratches.  Scratches behind the jacket have become faint.  Scratch behind head is the strongest.  Obverse Stage C:  Stage A scratches very weak.  Scratch behind head is still strongly present.  Reverse Stage A:  Die scratch running north from the curve of the U in UNITED.  N/S die scratch through the right side of the U in UNITED.  Two NW die scratches show from the top of the wheat lines to the rim.  Strong N/S die scratch through the E in STATES.  Series of NNW/SSE die scratches through the last A in AMERICA.  Reverse Stage B: Weaker stage A scratches.  Scratches from the wheat lines are gone. Reverse Stage C:  Second reverse.  Many N/S and NNW/SSE die scratches, strongest around STATES and AMERICA.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Trumpet Tail Mintmark.  Multiple die scratches running north and south notably; Long die scratch starting on the right side of the B of LIBERTY running south ending in the field.  Long die scratch starting inside the lower E of LIBERTY running south ending in the field.  Multiple die scratches show to the right of Lincoln’s profile notably between the lips and the chin.  Die scratch above bow tie. Reverse:  Twin die scratches running south from the U of PLURIBUS into the O of ONE.  Two die scratches running north from the N of ONE; one die scratch runs north to just below the B of PLURIBUS and the second die scratch running north to the lower left side of the U of PLURIBUS.  Die scratch centered and running N/S inside the left wheat stalk.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Medium N/S die scratches at the 19 of the date and below the beard.  Short N/S die scratches connecting to top and the forehead and the front hair.  Short N/S die gouge near the top of the head positioned center between GOD and WE.  Strong N/S die scratches below the R in LIBERTY.  Obverse Stage B:  Most scratches abraded away with some being weak.  Die gouge at the head is still present.  Secondary mintmark is weaker.  Reverse Stage A:  N/S die scratches through the E of ONE and the T of CENT.  NNW die scratch from the upper left side of the C of CENT.  Die gouge at the left lower inside of the C in CENT.  Lighter N/S die scratches in the field.  Reverse Stage B:  Stage A. die scratches abraded away.  Die gouge at the C of CENT is weaker.

1946-S 1¢ WRPM-074

Description:  S/S/S North & South

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Trumpet Tail Mintmark.  A long die scratch starts from the top of the Y of LIBERTY running north to the back of the head.  A second die scratch of the long die scratch runs N/S.  Short die gouge shows to the right of the E of LIBERTY.  Faint N/S die scratches inside the loop of the 9.  Obverse Stage B:  Secondary mintmark to the south abraded away.  Small die gouge shows to the left of the upper N of IN.  Obverse Stage C:  Die chip at the back of the neck.  Reverse Stage A:  Three short and one longer die scratches seen running north from the top of the right leg of the N of ONE.  Short die scratches are seen on the bottom of the left leg of the N of ONE running south.  Small die chip shows in the field centered and to the left of the T of CENT.  N/S die scratches inside the C of CENT.  N/S die scratches run from the bottom of the C of CENT to the U of UNITED.  Reverse Stage B:  Stage A die scratches on the right top edge of the N of ONE now has only one short die scratch.  All other Stage A markers are now weak to removed due to die polishing.  Reverse Stage C:  Die chip on the upper right edge of the right wheat stalk.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  Trumpet Tail Mintmark.  Weak WSW/ENE die scratches to the left of IN.  Obverse Stage B:  Die scratches at IN are barely visible.  Mintmark loop to the south abraded away.  Reverse Stage A:  Die scratches SSW from the O in ONE.  Die scratch NNE from the right center of the E in CENT.  Die scratches SSW from the bottom of the M in AMERICA.  Die scratch NNE from the right center of the E in AMERICA to the first S in STATES.  Long N/S die crack below center of the right wheat grains.  Reverse Stage B:  Stage A die scratches are weaker.  Die crack in wheat grains extends into the rim at 4:30.
