1948-S 1¢ WDDO-001

Description:  Extra thickness shows on IGWT and to a lesser extent on LIBERTY and the date.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge can be found SSE of the mint mark.  Reverse:  A strong die gouge extends SW from the rim above the left dot.

1948-S 1¢ WDDO-002

Description:  A close spread to the north shows on the bottoms of the T and Y in LIBERTY.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die scratches run north from the 19 in the date.  Short die scratches run N/S below the front curl of hair.  Other die scratches can be found throughout the obverse.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs NNW from the right side of the second S in STATES.

Description:  An extra eyelid can be found just below the normal eyelid.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A higher grade specimen is needed to determine die markers.  Reverse:  A higher grade specimen is needed to determine die markers.

Description:  An extra eyelid can be found just below the normal eyelid.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs north from the top of the chin.  Die scratches run south from the underside of the chin.  Reverse:  Die scratches run N/S through the right side of the T in CENT.

Description:  A CW spread shows on the first T in TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse StageA:  The obverse is also an RPM listedin the Wexler RPM Files as 1948-S 1¢ WRPM-006.  It is an S/S West.  ObverseStage B:  Die chip shows on the leftside of the last T of TRUST.  Smaller diechip above the last T of TRUST.  Short EWdie scratch under the L of LIBERTY.  Diescratches run north from the top of RTY of LIBERTY.  ObverseStage C:  None Noted.  ReverseStage A:  First reverse.  ReverseStage B:  Second reverse.  NS die scratches show inside the C & E ofCENT.  NS die scratch runs NS inside theO in OF.  Twin die scratches run southfrom the bottom left of the O in OF ending below the left wheat stem.  ReverseStage C:  Second reverse.  Twin die scratches run north from the righttop of the O in OF ending between the U & R of PLURIBUS.  Die chip on the upper right inner arm side ofthe first U of UNUM.

Description:  An extra eyelid can be found below the normal eyelid.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Parallel die scratches run SW/NE between the N of IN and G of GOD.  Reverse:  None significant.

1948-S 1¢ WDDR-001

Description:  An extremely close spread towards the center shows on the upper left wheat lines.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  The obverse is an RPM variety listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1948-S 1¢ WRPM-001.  It is an S/S East.  N/S scratches through the 1 and 9 of the date.  N/S die scratches above LIBERTY.  Obverse Stage B:  Die crack runs E/W above the VDB.  Reverse Stage A:  Small die chip centered on the outer left leg edge of the first U of UNUM.  Reverse Stage B:  Two short die scratches on the left side of the N of CENT.  Small die chip shows in the field above the E of UNITED.
