Die Markers:  Obverse:  A short, vertical die gouge can be found just to the right of the center of the E in WE.  Parallel die scratches run from SSW to NNE near the bottom of the center fold in the coat.  Reverse:  Several die scratches run from NNW to SSE through the left base of the Memorial, the left post, and the left side of the steps.

1961 1¢ Pr WDDR-002         "Best Of" Variety

Description:  A Class II spread towards the center shows on ONE CENT, the designer’s initials, both sides of the Memorial, and the letters of USA.  The strongest spread is on the lower left of the reverse.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A die gouge almost touches the back of the bust south of the Y in LIBERTY.  A die scratch runs from WSW to ENE to the left of the bottom of the ear.  Obverse Stage B:  New obverse die.  A die gouge can be found at the top of the hair south of the 1st T in TRUST.  Obverse Stage C:  Third obverse die.  A die gouge can be found south of the left side of the 2nd T in TRUST.  Reverse Stage A:  Numerous fine die scratches run mostly north to south in bays 1 and 2, the upper part of bays 5, 6, and 7, and bay 11.  A short, diagonal die scratch can be found just below the 2nd column.  Reverse Stage B:  Small die gouges can be found to the left of the bottom of the left post.  A small die gouge can be found below the right side of the 1st column.  Die pitting can be found between the bottoms of the T and E in STATES.  Reverse Stage C:  A die gouge can be found between the tops of the C and A in AMERICA.  A die gouge can be found to the right of the top of the 2nd A in AMERICA.  A short, horizontal die gouge can be found near the rim to the left of the left Memorial base.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge can be found between the bottoms of the I and N of IN.  Two parallel die scratches run from NW to SE through the hair at the top of the head.  Reverse:  A short, vertical die scratch can be found between the tops of the U and N of UNITED.  A die gouge can be found south of the E in UNITED.  A short, vertical die gouge can be found to the right of the lower E in ONE.  A die gouge (dot) can be found at the top of the 3rd Memorial bay.  A die scratch runs from SW to NE at the top of the 9th Memorial bay.  A die scratch runs from SW to NE on the Memorial roof north of the 8th Memorial column.
