1941-D 1¢ WDDO-001  

Description:  Class V doubling shows on IN GOD WE TRUST.  

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A long diagonal die crack runs through Lincoln’s upper forehead and hair.  A series of faded diagonal die scratches run through and below the Y in LIBERTY.  A diagonal die scratch shows in the lower shoulder fold of Lincoln’s jacket behind the lapel.  Reverse:  Vertical die scratches show inside the C in CENT.  A vertical die scratch runs through the lower opening of the first S in STATES.  A vertical die scratch runs north from the upper right edge of the A in STATES.  A die scratch runs north from the upper O in OF.  A diagonal die scratch grazes the upper right edge of the M in AMERICA.  A series of die gouges (dots) show on or near the E in AMERICA.

1941-D 1¢ WDDO-002  

Description:  Class V doubling shows on IN GOD WE TRUST.  

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A series of vertical die scratches run through WE.  Diagonal die scratches run through TRUST.  Vertical die scratches run through the date, mint mark and front of Lincoln’s jacket.  A series of die scratches run north from Lincoln’s upper forehead and front hair curl.   A concentric die scratch runs near the rim from the right of the date to the back of Lincoln’s bust.  Reverse:  A series of vertical die scratches run through and left of the N in ONE.  Vertical die scratches run through the letters E and N in CENT.  Vertical die scratches show to the right of the letter T in CENT.  Numerous, vertical die scratches run through most of the letters in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

1941-D 1¢ WDDO-003

Description:  Very close counterclockwise spread can be seen on TRUST.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse is also a re-punched mint mark designated WRPM-007.  Spiked head die crack between W and E in WE.  Die crack across the base of the bust and through V and D of V.D.B. to the rim. Reverse:  The reverse is a doubled die designated WDDR-002.  None noted.

1941-D 1¢ WDDO-004  

Description:  Class II and VI doubling shows on the date, LIBERTY, and IN GOD WE TRUST.  

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge shows on the central right edge of the L in LIBERTY.  A series of small die gouges (dots) show around the Y in LIBERTY.  A faded die scratch runs south from the Y in LIBERTY.  A die gouge shows on the front of Lincoln’s bust, southwest of the date.  Reverse:  A vertical die scratch run from the left wheat tip into the E in E PLURIBUS.  Light, vertical die scratches run through the N and T in UNITED.  A vertical die scratch runs along the left edge of the opening of the O in OF.  Light, diagonal die scratches run below the letters A and M in AMERICA.

1941-D 1¢ WDDO-005  

Description:  Class VI doubling shows on the date, LIBERTY, and IN GOD WE TRUST, with a notch showing on the lower R in TRUST.  

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Stage A:  A series of vertical die scratches run through LIBERTY.  A vertical die scratch runs through the tip of Lincoln’s nose.  Stage B:  The Stage A vertical die scratches through LIBERTY are extremely weak.  A die crack runs from the rim at 6 o’clock onto Lincoln’s lower bust.  Reverse:  Stage A:  A die crack runs to the rim at 4 o’clock, to the southeast of the last S in STATES.  Stage B:  Reverse die changed.  A diagonal die scratch shows inside the lower opening of the C in CENT.  Vertical die scratches run through the E in CENT.  Vertical die scratches show on either side of the of the T in CENT.  Numerous vertical die scratches run through most of the letters in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Description:  A strong doubled eyelid shows to the south of the normal eyelid.  

Die Markers:  Obverse:  An “X” shaped die scratch pattern runs through the tip of Lincoln’s nose.  A series of vertical die scratches run through the date.  Light, diagonal die scratches show to the northeast of the E in WE.  Numerous, vertical die scratches run through LIBERTY.  A concentric die scratch runs close to the rim below the VDB initials.  Reverse:  A diagonal die scratch runs southwest from the lower last A in AMERICA.

1941-D 1¢ WDDR-001          "Best Of" Variety

Description:  Very strong Class VI extra thickness shows the letters of EPU, the dots, both wheat ears and stems, and the outer most letters of USA.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A:  A die scratch extends east from the top of Lincoln’s bowtie.  Obverse Stage B:  Same as Stage A.  Reverse Stage A:  A die scratch extends NW from the upper left C of CENT.  A die scratch extends north from the upper right N of UNITED.  Reverse Stage B:  A die chip can be found on the bottom of the T in CENT.

Description:  Strong extra thickness shows on EPU, the dots, and both upper wheat ears.  Lesser thickness shows on both wheat stems.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  The obverse is a re-punched mint mark designated WRPM-007 and doubled die designated WDDO-003.  Spiked head die crack between W and E in WE.  Die crack across the base of the bust and through V and D of V.D.B. to the rim. Reverse:  None noted.
