1950-S 1¢ WRPM-041

Description: S/S East

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: A strong die gouge shows at the rim NE of the D in GOD (At least weakly visible in all known stages). A grouping of short die scratches shows around the 5 and 0 in the date with a short one running north from the upper left side of the 0, two die scratches connect the inside upper opening of the 5 in the date (one very close to the left edge and one further to the right) and three equally spaced short die scratches running south from the lower curve in the 5. A long die scratch runs north from near the upper left corner of the 5 in the date, joining a group of similar die scratches which run to just below the U in TRUST.  Numerous die scratches run NNW above and between the 1 and 9 in the date ending in the field in front of the chin. A close grouping of N-S die scratches shows in the eye-socket, SE of the eyelid. Numerous NNW die scratches run above the RTY of LIBERTY with two closely spaced stronger ones run NNW from the upper left side of the T in LIBERTY. A strong N-S die gouge shows on the lower bust, SW of the lower lapel (This die gouge is present in all known die stages). Numerous N-S die scratches show in front of the middle edge of the second shoulder fold, SW of the top button hole. A long die scratch runs SE from below the lower right corner of the B in LIBERTY, ending in the field near the lower back of the bust. Several die scratches run North from the back of the head below GOD. Obverse Stage B: The long die scratch SE from below the right corner of the B in LIBERTY is weaker but still present. The N-S die gouge SW of the lower lapel is still present. The Stage A die scratches around the date are worn away and have been replaced by a single NW-SE die scratch between the upper 1 & 9 in the date. A strong die clash shows at the neck and NW of the 1 in the date. The die gouge to the NE of the G in GOD is weaker, but still present. Obverse Stage C: The die clash at the throat is still visible. The die gouge NE of the G in GOD is weakly visible. The N-S die gouge SW of the lower lapel is still present. Reverse Stage A: A multitude of mostly N-S die scratches show throughout most of the reverse. Numerous die scratches show on either side of the T in CENT and V down to the top of the second T in STATES. A very strong die scratch runs south from the outer right underside of the T in CENT. Small die dot left side of right upright of N in CENT. Reverse Stage B: Die dot on N in CENT still faintly present. None of the other Stage A markers are present. A light die scratch runs NW from the central right side of the vertical bar of the T in CENT. A die scratch runs SW from the central left side of the lower right arm of the R in AMERICA. A SW-NE die scratch connects the lower left corner of the horizontal bar of the first T in STATES with the upper central curve of the S in STATES. Two die scratches run SW and South from the lower left arm of the M in AMERICA.  Reverse Stage C: The SW and south die scratches from the lower left arm of the M in AMERICA are still present. Two strong die dots show between the upper left wheat tip and the rim. A strong die gouge (dot) shows almost equally between the central left curve of the C in CENT and the left wheat stalk.

Description: S/S East

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Strong concentric die scratches show at the rim between the D in GOD and the first T in TRUST. Two closely spaced parallel die scratches run north above the 9 in the date almost to the U in TRUST. Several similar, but much lighter die scratches run north from above the 1 & 9 in the date to the left of the previously mentioned die scratches. A distinct die scratch runs north from the front of the bust SE and E of the bowtie. Light N-S die scratches show around the RTY of LIBERTY with a slightly stronger one running SSE between the lower R & T in LIBERTY. Strong block-like die gouge runs SSE under ear on Lincoln’s jaw. Obverse Stage B: Most Stage A die markers are weakly present or worn away. Die gouge on jaw still present. A die gouge (dot) shows between the W and E in WE. A die gouge (dot) shows in the eye socket SE of the eye lid. Obverse Stage C: Only die gouge on jaw still weakly present. Die gouge between the W and E in WE weak.  Die gouge in the eye socket SE of the eye lid weak. A die gouge shows below and between the L and I in LIBERTY. A die gouge (dot) shows to the right of the lower N in IN. Reverse Stage A: A group of three parallel die scratches run above, through and below the N in CENT. A concentric die scratch shows at the rim above the URIBUS in PLURIBUS and the UN in UNUM. Several light N-S die scratches show on either side of the central curve of the C in CENT. A group of die scratches run North from the upper opening and right vertical bar of the N in ONE and from above the upper left side of the E in ONE (Weakly visible in Stage B). Reverse Stage B: Two of the die scratches above the N in ONE and one above the E in ONE are the only Stage A die markers still present. A die gouge (dot) shows below the lower right side of the horizontal bar of the E in ONE. Reverse Stage C: A pair of very light die scratches running north from the upper right arm and upper opening of the N in ONE still faintly present. Tiny die gouge (dot) shows inside the upper opening of the N in ONE. Two die gouges (dots) show between the U and N in UNITED and a die gouge shows SSW of the lower U.  A die gouge shows north of the right wheat tip and SE of the M in UNUM. A die gouge (dot) shows to the SE of the lower second U in UNUM.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: Numerous N-S die scratches show throughout most of the obverse. A strong die scratch runs NW from the upper left side of the mint mark through the central opening of the 9 in the date. Many strong N-S die gouges show at and in front of the second shoulder fold. A short, but strong N-S die gouge shows to the left of the upper lapel. Obverse Stage B: The die scratches at the second shoulder fold are still present. The strong N-S die gouge to the left of to the upper lapel is weak, but present. A few of the stronger die scratches from Stage A remain above and to the left of the 19 in the date. A few of the stronger N-S die scratches remain above the TY in LIBERTY. Reverse Stage A: A strong N-S die scratch runs North from the upper left side of the diagonal cross bar of the N in ONE almost to the B in PLURIBUS. A very long die scratch runs North from the central upper side of the E in STATES, crossing through the right side of the horizontal crossbar of the T in CENT and ending in the field below the N in UNUM. Reverse Stage B: The die scratches above the N in ONE and from the E in STATES are still present, but weak.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: A light group of die scratches run NNW from above the 1 & 9 in the date. A strong NW-SE die gouge shows between the D & B in VDB. Obverse Stage B: A strong die clash shows at the neck. The NW-SE die gouge between the D & B in VDB is still present. The NW-SE die scratches around the 1 & 9 in the date are weakly present. Swirling die scratches show SW of the mint mark and on the lower front of the bust. A grouping of NNW-SSE die scratches show in front of the forehead and upper hair curl. NNW-SSE die scratches show behind the neck, NE of the Y in LIBERTY. Obverse Stage C: The NW-SE die gouge between the D & B in VDB is still present. The die clash at the neck is weakly present. The NW-SE die scratches above the 1 & 9 in the date are weakly present. All other Stage A die markers are worn away. Reverse Stage A: A die gouge (dot) shows along the lower left margin of the vertical section of the C in CENT. No other significant die markers noted. Reverse Stage B: The die dot along the left margin of the C in CENT is still present. No other significant die markers noted. Reverse Stage C: The lower right margin of the right wheat stalk is weak and beginning to blend into the field. No other significant die markers noted.

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: A strong die scratch runs mostly East from the rim above the upper left side of the W in WE. Similar die scratches show above the U and last T in TRUST. Strong concentric die scratches run mostly E-W through the upper front of the hair. Strong N-S die scratches show behind the lower bust, well South of the TY in LIBERTY. Numerous mostly N-S die scratches show around the 1 & 9 in the date with a couple of stronger ones running North from the top of the 1 in the date. The remnants of a die clash show to the NE of the Y in LIBERTY. Obverse Stage B: The die scratches running North from the 1 in the date are still present. The concentric die scratches at the upper hair are still present. The strong die gouges behind the lower bust are still present. Reverse Stage A: A strong die scratch runs South from near the lower E in E PLURIBUS. A strong die gouge (dot) shows in the field just to the right of the uppermost wheat grains and well West of the lower C in CENT. A N-S die scratch runs perfectly through the center-line of the O in ONE, North to the lower SE side of the first U in PLURIBUS. Several die scratches with a strong gouge mixed in, run SSW-NNE above and below the upper right side of the T in CENT.  Obverse Stage B: The die scratch South from the E in E PLURIBUS is weak, but present. The die scratch through the O in ONE is weak, but present. The die scratches NNE from the top of the T in CENT are present but look different. A new strong die gouge runs SSW from the lower left corner of the E in STATES.

Description: S/S West

Die Markers:  Obverse Stage A: A light die scratch runs straight South below the center of the mint mark where it joins several other light N-S die scratches on either side of it. A strong die crack runs on the lower bust over the designer’s initials. A strong E-W die scratch runs below the left end of the die crack. A grouping of fine, parallel N-S die scratches shows around the top curve of the 9 in the date. A strong die scratch shows just left of the upper back of the head, well below the G in GOD. A short N-S die scratch shows in the field South of the lower right-hand corner of the N in IN. Numerous NNW-SSE die scratches show through the RTY in LIBERTY and at the back of the neck. Obverse Stage B: The die crack on the lower bust remains unchanged, but the E-W die scratch below its left end has faded considerably. The N-S die scratch behind the back of the head is present, but weaker. Obverse Stage C: The die crack on the lower bust is still unchanged. The E-W die scratch is almost worn away. The upper side of the die scratch behind the back of the head is the only partly visible. A die dot shows along the right inside edge of the upper opening of the 9 in the date. A tiny die dot shows directly below the R in LIBERTY. Obverse Stage D: The die crack on the lower bust is still present, but nearly all other previously mentioned die markers are worn away. The die gouge (dot) below the R in LIBERTY is much more prominent. Reverse Stage A: Many light N-S die scratches show throughout the reverse. A light die scratch runs mostly East above the L in PLURIBUS. A series of short SSW-NNE die scratches run near the rim above the LURI in PLURIBUS with the strongest ones above the U. A strong die gouge (dot) shows between the lower left wheat stalk and the rim level with the top of the left first wheat kernel. A number of N-S die scratches show on either side of the vertical area of the C in CENT. A distinctive grouping of N-S die scratches run through the STAT of STATES and the ERICA of AMERICA. Reverse Stage B: The Stage A die gouge to the left of the lower wheat stalk is still present. The SSW-NNE die scratches above the LURI in PLURIBUS have been reduced to a single scratch above the upper right curve of the U in UNUM. The Stage A die scratches through STATES and AMERICA have been reduced to the area around the AT in STATES and the CA in AMERICA. Reverse Stage C: Only single N-S die scratches to the left of the lower T in STATES and between the lower right arm of the A in STATES and the outer opening of the C in AMERICA remain from the Stage A & B die scratches in this area. Reverse Stage D: A die crack shows on the outer edge of the right wheat stalk NNE of the last S in STATES.

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Mostly N-S die scratches run through the RTY in LIBERTY. Two stronger ones converge below the R in LIBERTY almost forming a V. A longer die scratch runs North from the upper right side of the R in LIBERTY ending in the field SE of the N in IN. This die scratch is crossed by an additional die scratch that arcs North from above the T in LIBERTY. Several die scratches show on the front of the neck, NW of the bowtie. Three mostly parallel N-S die scratches show to the left of the 1 in the date and below the chin. Two short parallel die scratches run NNE from the upper left side of the 9 in the date. A similar die scratch shows inside the upper 9 in the date. Two light die scratches run from the rim at K-3:00. A strong series of N-S die scratches show between the upper forehead and the front hair curl. A short die scratch runs N-S behind the back of the central lapel. Obverse Stage B: Most of the Stage A die markers are present, but weak except for the N-S die scratches at the front hair curl which are still prominent. Obverse Stage C: A few of the Stage A and B die markers are still present, including the X shaped die scratch above LIBERTY, one of the die scratches to the left of the 1 in the date and the die scratches at the front hair curl. Obverse Stage D: All of the previously mentioned stronger die markers are barely visible, except the N-S die scratches at the front hair curl are still prominent. Reverse Stage A: A nice die scratch curves South from the right central side of the lower left arm of the A in STATES, through the central C in AMERICA ending at the lower right wheat stem. A short but perfectly vertical die scratch runs North from the lower curve of the C in AMERICA. Light die scratches run SSE from below the AMER in AMERICA. Another perfectly vertical die scratch runs South to the lower right wheat stem from the lower right corner of the last A in AMERICA. Reverse Stage B: Most of the Stage A markers are present, but weaker.  The die scratch below the lower left arm of the A in STATES, through the central C in AMERICA ending at the lower right wheat stem is the most prominent one still remaining. Reverse Stage C: A nice die crack runs SW to the rim from the central left wheat stalk East of the U in UNITED. Several of the Stage A & B die markers are still visible. Reverse Stage D: New reverse die. No die crack is present on the left wheat stalk. Numerous N-S die scratches run through the left side of the O in ONE. A number of die scratches through the UNI in UNITED connect to the lower C in CENT. Several N-S die scratches show inside the E in ONE. A die scratch runs NNE from the top left side of the T in CENT, through the lower horizontal bar of the E in ONE. Several light N-S die scratches run through the right vertical bar of the N in CENT.

Die Markers:  Obverse: A strong series of die scratches run mostly South below the ERT in LIBERTY. Numerous die scratches run NNW through the 1 and left side of the 9 in the date. A short die scratch runs South from the tail of the 9 in the date. A faded, E-W oriented die gouge shows near the rim, NE of the D in GOD. Two small die gouges protrude from the rim, NW of the second T in TRUST. Numerous, light die scratches run mostly North or NNW from the upper TY in LIBERTY, ending in the field West of the upper ear. A broken, N-S oriented die scratch shows inside the upper central opening of the ear. A faded concentric die scratch runs just inside the rim from approximately K-5:30 to K-8. Light die scratches run mostly North from the back of the head below the GO in GOD. Reverse: Several long die scratches, oriented NW-SE run from below the E in E PLURIBUS toward the left wheat tip or back of the C in CENT.A die gouge (dot) shows just to the right of the central M in UNUM. A die gouge (dot) shows to the right of the upper S in PLURIBUS. Several light die scratches run mostly North from the upper left edge of the O in ONE. Three parallel die scratches show inside the opening of the C in CENT. Light die scratches run mostly South from the lower opening of the first A in AMERICA. Two, short die scratches, oriented NW-SE, show inside the upper opening of the first A in AMERICA. A similar die scratch shows along the upper right edge of the first A in AMERICA. A long, but faded die scratch runs NW-SE in the field to the right of the E in ONE.

Die Markers: Obverse: Several faded die scratches run NNW from the front of the bust below the 1 in the date to the lower point of the chin. A tiny die scratch, oriented NNW-SSE runs through the B in VDB. A grouping of light die scratches run South from the underside of the left crossbar of the T in LIBERTY. A faded concentric die scratch shows at the rim above the OD in GOD, both letters of WE and the first T in TRUST. Two parallel die scratches show well South of the E in LIBERTY. A faded die scratch runs North above the right side of the R in LIBERTY. Reverse: Numerous N-S die scratches show throughout the reverse. A distinctive grouping of scratches run N-S through the N in UNITED. A long die scratch runs mostly South from the lower right arm of the N in UNITED, through the F in OF and almost to the rim through the lower left wheat stem. A short die scratch runs NNE from the rim well SE of the last A in AMERICA. A strong die scratch runs NNE from the lower C in CENT to the lower right side of the O in ONE.

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Several light die scratches run North from the RTY in LIBERTY. A fine die scratch run South from the central lower left arm of the R in LIBERTY. A similarly fine die scratch runs SSE from the central lower opening of the R in LIBERTY. Light die scratches run North from the bridge of the nose. Light N-S die scratches run in front of the profile to the top of the date. A further light N-S die scratch connects the lower edge of the upper curve with the tail of the 9 in the date. A light N-S orientated die gouge shows NW of the tail of the 5 in the date directly North of the mint mark. A tiny die gouge shows at the rim SE of the lower front point of the bust. A N-S die gouge shows in front of the upper second shoulder fold, SSW of the upper button hole. Die chip on the lower side of the beard located right of center above the neck.  Large die gouge above the die chip. Obverse Stage B: All Stage A die markers are worn away except for the N-S die gouge in front of the upper second shoulder fold and die chip in beard. A small die gouge shows along the NE corner of the E in LIBERTY. A tiny die gouge (dot) shows along the upper right edge of the B in LIBERTY. A tiny die gouge (dot) shows to the SE of the lower edge of the Y in LIBERTY. Obverse Stage C: The Stage A & B die gouge in front of the upper second shoulder fold is mushy and weak. Die gouge in beard still present. The Stage B die gouge along the NW corner of the E in LIBERTY is stronger and an additional, similarly oriented die gouge runs NE from the corner of the lower crossbar of the E. The Stage B die dot to the SE of the lower Y in LIBERTY is still present. Die gouge in the field under US in TRUST. Obverse Stage D: Die dot SE of lower Y in LIBERTY worn away. No other significant changes. Reverse Stage A: Numerous N-S die scratches show all over the reverse. Strong finger feeder damage runs SW-NE between the upper right wheat tip and the rim. A strong scratch connects the central upper T in CENT with the lower right corner of the E in ONE (This die scratch is visible in all known reverse die stages). A strong die scratch runs North from the upper left corner of the R in AMERICA into and through the outer right curve of the S in STATES (Only the slightest remnant of this die scratch shows just above the R in later die states). Reverse Stage B: The finger feeder damage is present, but weaker. The die scratches above the T in CENT and above the left side of the R in AMERICA are much weaker, but visible. No other markers noted. Reverse Stage C: Feeder finger damage weaker. Other reverse markers unchanged.  Reverse Stage D: The finger feeder damage is still weakly visible. Die gouge shows to the left of the upper B in PLURIBUS. The die scratch north from the T is barely visible. The die scratch from the upper left of the R in AMERICA shows only a slight lump above the R. A fresh die scratch runs N-S just right of the opening of the E in ONE. N/S die scratch under first dot in EPU. Die gouge in O in OF.

A die gouge shows at the rim directly East of the lower mint mark. A short NNW-SSE die scratch shows in the eye-socket SE of the eye. Obverse Stage B: The Stage A N-S die scratch above the 1 in the date is present, but much weaker. The Stage A parallel die scratches inside the 9 in the date are still visible. All other Stage A die markers are still present, but weaker. Reverse Stage A: Strong die scratches run through the T in STATES, SSE to the second A in AMERICA. A NNW-SSE die scratch shows in the field right of the T in CENT. A short die scratch slices NW from the lower left corner of the E in STATES. A faded die scratch connects the lower left arm of the N in UNITED with the upper O in OF. A fresher die scratch runs SSE from the lower right side of the U in UNITED. A series of three parallel and short die scratches run NNW from the top right curve of the O in ONE. Reverse Stage B: The die scratches through the T in STATES and A in AMERICA are present, but weaker. The die scratch to the right of the T in CENT is visible, but weaker. The three parallel die scratches above the upper right side of the O in ONE are still visible. A strong die gouge shows SSW of the lower T in UNITED.

N by W/ S by E die scratches on the hair near the back of the neck. Die gouge west of I in IN. Die gouge right of Y in LIBERTY. Die scratches under and in front of Lincoln’s chin. Small die scratch under VDB. Die scratch running north at the top of Lincoln’s hair. Obverse Stage B: Die gouge at the vest is weak. Die scratches at TRUST are abraded away. Die scratches at the ear only show at the top. Die scratches at the hair are abraded away. A die scratch runs SW from the rim, just NW from the I in IN. A fine die scratch runs South from the tip of the nose. Two weak, parallel die scratches show in the field, SE of the tip of the chin. An extremely light die crack is beginning to form on the lower bust above and East of the VDB initials. A group of two faded and parallel die scratches run NNW above the TY in LIBERTY. A light N-S die scratch shows on the upper hair, SE of the D in GOD. Very light N-S die scratches show behind the eyelid. A light die crack runs NW through the eyebrow. Reverse Stage A: N by W/ S by E die scratches through the F in OF. Die scratch from the top of the first S in STATES running south and through the E in AMERICA. N by W/ S by E die scratches through the C in AMERICA. Reverse Stage B: Scratches at OF are abraded away. The remaining Stage A scratches are weak. A worn N-S die scratch shows inside the lower C of CENT. The lower right margin of the right wheat stalk is weakened considerably.

Description: S/S West

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Long, light die scratch north from the top of the 1 in the date.  Die scratches south from the 19 in the date running into the vest. Obverse Stage B: A strong and unusual die crack runs N-S on the forehead North of the eyebrow. A tiny die gouge (dot) shows to the NE of the upper right tip of the Y in LIBERTY. Obverse Stage C: The N-S die crack on the forehead is still visible. A large die dot shows in front of the forehead. Reverse Stage A: A short heavy and a short light die scratch about north from the left upper area of the N of ONE.  Two die scratches about north from the left upper area of the N of UNITED. Reverse Stage B: A long, thin die crack shows on the central right wheat grains starting well SE of the last A in AMERICA all the way North to the upper right wheat kernel. Two short die scratches run North from the upper left tip of the N in ONE. Two tiny die dots show on either side of the T in CENT with one in the field left of the T in CENT about a third of the way up, and an additional die dot along the upper right side of the T in CENT about two thirds of the way up. A medium die gouge (dot) shows in the field to the left of the central right wheat stalk, well NE of the last S in STATES. Reverse Stage C: The long die crack on the central right wheat is stronger. The short die scratches running North from the upper N in ONE are still present. Remnants of a single die gouge to the left of the T in CENT are all the remain of those gouges.

Description: S/S South

Die Markers: Obverse: A die gouge shows on the upper right side of the 9 in the date. Several parallel die scratches run NNW-SSE through and above the 1 in the date. Heavy, but faded die scratches run North above the TY in LIBERTY. A strong die gouge (dot) shows on the back of the hair, right of where the previously mentioned die scratches end in the field. Reverse: A rare series of E-W die scratches show inside the upper opening of the N and above the E in ONE. Two slicing die gouges show on the upper side of the T in CENT. A faded die scratch runs North from the upper left side of the T which is crossed by a perpendicular die scratch, forming a cross. A medium die gouge shows at the upper right corner of the T in CENT. A die gouge (dot) shows inside the lower outer opening of the C in AMERICA. A strong die gouge shows to the NE of the upper N in CENT.

Description: S/S South

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A very strong die scratch slices directly through the center opening of the 9 in the date and ends shortly in the field to the north. A second, strong die scratch just to the right of the previous scratch runs north from the top of the 9. A spiked shaped die gouge shows just left of the previously mentioned die scratches on top of the 9. Light NNW-SSE die scratches run through the 9 in the date ending in the field SE of the chin. A group of fine, N-S die scratches show inside the eye-socket, SE of the eye and between the upper bridge of the nose and the lower eyebrow. Several short N-S die scratches connect the upper forehead with the hair curl. A tight grouping of N-S die scratches shows along the left opening of the E in LIBERTY. Many long N-S die scratches run through the ERTY in LIBERTY all the way North to IN and the G in GOD. A strong, but short die scratch runs north from the back of the bust to the left of the Y in LIBERTY. Multiple NW-SE die scratches on the beard. Wavy die scratch left back tip of Lincoln’s bust. Obverse Stage B: Weak remnants of the die scratches around the date remain. The spiked shaped die gouge on the upper left 9 is still present. An ESE die scratch shows on the lower bust East of the B in VDB. Only the slightest remnant of the die scratches through the E in LIBERTY are visible. A die gouge (dot) shows on the upper right side of the R in LIBERTY. Die scratches on beard still present. Die scratch on back of the bust still present. All other die markers are worn away. Obverse Stage C: Very weak remnant of die scratches left of date. Die scratch on back of bust much weaker. Die scratches on beard weaker. A large die gouge (dot) shows behind the upper head, SSW of the G in GOD. A die gouge (dot) shows along the upper right edge of the R in LIBERTY. A die dot shows in the field equidistant between the upper E in WE and the first T in TRUST. A die gouge (dot) shows in the field, WSW of the first T in TRUST. Reverse Stage A: A strong die chip (gouge) shows in the field right of the upper T in CENT. Fine WSW-ESE die scratches connect the lowest bar of the E in CENT with the lower right side of the N in CENT. A similarly fine die scratch runs West from the left side of the upper curve of the first S in STATES. Reverse Stage B: The die chip right of the upper T in CENT is present but weak. All other die markers are worn away. Reverse Stage C: Die chip right of the T in CENT present but weak. Die gouge right of horizontal bar in T. Light die scratches run SW from below the CA in AMERICA. Two, closely spaced die gouges (dots) show above the E in STATES. Light die scratches run SW from the U in PLURIBUS. A short die scratch runs NE from the tip of the left wheat stalk.

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A strong die scratch runs NNW from the upper right side of the 9 in the date. Several parallel, but lighter die scratches show to the left of the previously mentioned die scratch. A strong die scratch runs north from the upper right side of the R in LIBERTY. Two lighter die scratches run North and NNW respectively, from the tops of the T and Y in LIBERTY. Light, mostly N-S oriented die scratches show in the back of the hair, SE of the D in GOD. Short, E-W oriented die scratches show to the NW of the S and T in TRUST. A short concentric die gouge shows above the I in IN. A similar concentric die gouge shows above the O and D in GOD and runs clockwise, ending just left of the W in WE. Obverse Stage B:  Die scratches north from LIBERTY very weak. N-S die scratches in upper hair still strong. Die scratches NNW from 19 in date weak. Obverse Stage C: Earlier markers not present except die scratches in upper hair very faintly present. A very light, but long die scratch runs SSE from the lower right corner of the E in LIBERTY. A grouping of light die scratches run SSE from below and inside the lower opening of the R in LIBERTY with a slightly stronger one running SSE from the lower left corner of the right arm of the R in LIBERTY. A strong die gouge (dot) shows SE of the lower right corner of the Y in LIBERTY. Some light die scratches run NNE to behind the head above the Y in LIBERTY. A strong die scratch runs NE to the rim above the N in IN. A strong, but very thin die scratch connects the inside front hair curl with the top of the forehead.  A well-hidden die scratch, oriented NNW-SSE, shows in front of the upper second shoulder fold, SW of the upper button hole. Light die scratches run NNW from the upper left side of the 1 in the date. A very light die clash remnant shows at the neck. Reverse Stage A: A die gouge (dot) shows in the field right of the upper N in ONE. Very light die scratches run north above the previously mentioned die gouge into the S in PLURIBUS. Light die scratches run north right of the T in CENT. A very light die scratch runs NNW from the upper left area of the N in UNITED. An area of die damage shows above the U in UNITED. A light die scratch connects the lower right edge of the D in UNITED with the right edge of the M in AMERICA. A short die scratch juts north from the top of the first A in AMERICA. Several short die scratches run south from the lower opening of the A in AMERICA. Reverse Stage B: All Stage A markers worn away. A tiny die gouge shows along the left opening of the first U in UNUM. A tiny die dot shows NW of the upper left corner of the N in UNUM. A tiny die dot shows in the furrow of the right most wheat line east from the upper middle of the C in CENT. A tiny disturbance shows at the apex of the left wheat tip. A tiny die gouge (dot) shows above the upper right arm of the U in UNITED. Two tiny die gouges (dots) show inside the right sides of the upper and lower openings of the A in STATES. Reverse Stage C: New reverse die. A grouping of die scratches run NNW-SSE through the top right edge of the upper left wheat lines. A long line of die scratches run North from above and between the O & N of ONE. A distinct die scratch runs North from the upper left side of the O in ONE to the upper left arm of the U in PLURIBUS. A short die gouge runs ENE from the upper left arm of the second U in PLURIBUS. A stronger die scratch connects the lower left side of the C in CENT to the upper right corner of the right upper arm of the N in UNITED. Several parallel die scratches run North from the upper last A in AMERICA to in-between the TE in STATES.

Die Markers: Obverse: A die gouge shows in the field directly in front of Lincoln’s upper eyebrow. A series of short and faded die scratches run N-S along the left length of the 1 in the date. A small die gouge (dot) shows to the East of the lower N in IN. A broken series of concentric die scratches show near the rim above the L in LIBERTY. A faint N-S die scratch runs along the right side of the T in LIBERTY. A light die crack shows on the back of the bust directly East of the lower Y in LIBERTY. Reverse: Numerous NNW-SSE die scratches show all over the reverse. A short die scratch runs NW to the rim to the upper left of the P in PLURIBUS. A concentric die scratch starts right of the previously mentioned scratch and runs all the way above the rest of the motto to level with the right wheat tip. An additional scratch crossing the previously mentioned one shows to the upper left and above the S in PLURIBUS. Several “spikey” die scratches run NNW from the upper crossbar of the T in CENT with some connecting to the lower E in ONE. Several long NNW-SSE die scratches show in the field to the right of the T in CENT. Numerous parallel die scratches run SSE from the lower left arm of the N in UNITED, through the O in OF. Many, mostly N-S die scratches, run below most of the letters in AMERICA.

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Very light parallel die scratches run South between and below the N in IN and the G in GOD. A strange faded die gouged area shows along an ENE line in front of the upper crossbar of the E in WE to above the upper left side of the first T in TRUST. A die gouge (dot) shows on the upper center of the T in LIBERTY. A very light die scratch runs N-S in front of the upper shoulder fold SSW from the upper left tip of the lapel. Very light die scratches run SSE from the upper right side of the 1 in the date. A strong die gouge (dot) shows at the neck just North of the bow tie. Obverse Stage B: The Stage A die gouge on the upper center of the T in LIBERTY is weakly visible. The light die scratch in front of the upper shoulder fold is weakly visible. The die gouge at the neck is now overlaid by a faded die clash at the neck above the bow tie. The strange die gouged area East of the E in WE is still visible. Reverse Stage A: A light die scratch runs NNW from the truncation of the upper left wheat stem with the base of the husk. A light die scratch runs South from the lower left side of the O in OF right of the previously mentioned die scratch. A light N-S die scratch shows in the field to the left of the upper C in CENT. A faded die scratch runs North from the middle right side of the A in STATES into the field, just missing the right side of the first T in STATES. Several very light die scratches run North from the upper side of the N in ONE. A die gouge (dot) shows inside the C in AMERICA. Reverse Stage B: The Stage A die gouge inside the C in AMERICA is still visible. Some of the die scratches North of the N in One are weakly visible. The Stage A die scratches SW of the O in ONE are weakly visible.

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A die gouge (dot) shows along the lower right margin of the D in GOD. Two tiny die gouges (dots) show NE above the L and directly above the left upper corner of the I in LIBERTY. A jagged die crack runs mostly N from above the upper Ear. A die crack runs SSW onto the front of the bust from the lower left side of the bow tie. Obverse Stage B: The Stage A die dots above the L & I in LIBERTY are still visible. A strong die gouge shows at the rim below the first shoulder fold. The jagged die crack above the upper ear is stronger. The die crack below the bow tie remains the same strength. Obverse Stage C: The die gouge below the first shoulder fold is stronger. The die dots above the L & I in LIBERTY are still present. The die cracks above the ear and from the lower bow tie are unchanged. A new, strong die gouge shows in the field one letter width South of the B in LIBERTY. Reverse Stage A: A tiny die gouge (dot) shows in the trough of the right outermost wheat line well right of the T in CENT. A spot of die damage shows NW of the R in AMERICA. Reverse Stage B: All Stage A die markers are at least weakly present. A die chip has formed to the left of the second left wheat kernel from the top of the left wheat stalk, well West from the lower C in CENT. Reverse Stage C: All Stage A & B die markers are at least weakly present. The die chip in the upper left wheat stalk is much stronger and is associated with a large pre-die chip depression to the West.

Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Two die scratches SSE from the lower area of the 5 in the date.  Long die scratches in different northerly/southerly directions to the right of the 1 in the date.  N-S die scratches at the front of the hair, forehead, bridge of the nose and the lips. Obverse Stage B: Die scratches at the 5 in the date abraded away. All other Stage A die scratches are weak. A tiny N-S oriented die gouge shows on the upper hair SW of the W in WE. A very short die crack runs N-S above the upper right side of the ear. Obverse Stage C: The heavy, but faded die scratch north from the forehead is much weaker as is the die scratch at the bridge of the nose. The die gouge on the upper hair, SW of the W in WE is present. All other previous die scratches are very weak. Two die dots run in an E-W line in front of the tip of the nose. Obverse Stage D: All previous die markers are worn away except for the die crack above the ear and the die gouge in the upper hair, SW of the W in WE. Die dot between lower W and E in WE. Reverse Stage A: North by west/south by east die scratch right of the B in PLURIBUS.  Short die scratch north from the upper right of the O in ONE.  NNW die scratch from the lower right inside of the E of ONE. A die crack shows on the lower central right wheat stalk, SE of the last S in STATES. Reverse Stage B: Die scratch at the B of PLURIBUS is weak. The Stage A die crack is still present. All remaining stage A die scratches abraded away. Reverse Stage C: The Stage A die crack is still present. Die scratch at the B of PLURIBUS is abraded away. A die dot shows between the central E & S in STATES. Obverse Stage D: The Stage A die crack is still present. The die dot between the central E & S in STATES is still visible.
